Carmen Mi Ping Chan
1957 – 2026
Beloved wife, mother, and grandmothe, Carmen (Mi Ping Chan), 69, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal. Carmen was born on February 18, 1957, to Muk Shui Chan and Sam Lee in Hong Kong, where she grew up. She married Jethro Choi in 1980 and immigrated with her family to Canada in 1993.
She was a loving mother and caretaker. She gave up her career as an accountant to focus on raising her two children, while navigating the complexity of living in a new country. She spent 15+ years raising two children in Canada and Carmen still enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren and cooking up various cuisines for her family to appreciate.
She will be remembered for her charisma, her hard working attitude, her willingness to help others, her persistence for excellence in everything she did, and her love for oranges and peanuts.
Carmen is survived by her husband, Jethro; her daughter, Angela & son-in-law Patrick (Lau); her son, Francis & daughter-in-law Amanda (Dwyer); her grandchildren, Constance (Lau), Marella, and Kairi.
Our family would like to extend a deep appreciation to the staff at the Royal Victoria Hospital, who provided care to Carmen these last few months. As a family, we will be forever grateful for the support and kindness shown.
Per Carmen’s wishes, there will be a private service at St. Veronica’s Church (1300 Carson avenue, Dorval, QC H9S1M6) in Montreal on March 11th at 11am EST to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her name to the Balfour Mount Palliative Care Unit at Royal Victoria Hospital.
