Catherine Margaret (Peggy) McBurney, nee James
1930 – 2025
With profound sadness we announce the passing of dearly beloved Peggy McBurney on March 10th. She leaves to mourn her siblings Dale Godwin and Martin Villeneuve and daughter Pamela McBurney Manning. Also mourning are daughter-in -law Anne Marie Zincowski: her grandchildren Brock McBurney (Claire), Trevor Manning (Nadege), Neil Manning (Kim), Catherine McBurney (Eric), and Lisa McBurney (Chris). She also leaves her adored great grandchildren Grace McBurney, Amina and Zadie Manning, and Ronan Manning; nieces and nephew Gary Wheeler, Heather Wheeler, Lori, Coleen, Karen and Heidi Batson.
Peggy will join the love of her life for 71 years, the late Robert ‘Bob’ McBurney, her late son Glenn McBurney (Anne Marie) and her special late sister Patricia Batson.
Peggy was one of the founders of the LaSalle Public library. Started as a volunteer library in 1959 in LaSalle Heights, it became a corporation in 1960 where she sat on the executive as ‘librarian’. In 1973 the library was bought by the city for $1.00. She retired in 1992 after 33 years of service. She then spent the next 25 years enjoying a wonderful retirement in Florida and her beloved cottage on Chazy Lake N.Y.
Peggy was a no-nonsense, loving, beautiful person. She has been an inspiration to many and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Donations in memory of Peggy can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation or Canadian Cancer society.
A celebration of her life will be announced to take place at a later date.
