1940 – 2026

It is with great sadness and deep sorrow that the family of Wayne Vinsel Hinkson announces his passing on Tuesday, January 27th, 2026, at the age of 85 in Pointe‑Claire.

Wayne was the devoted and loving husband of Judy Paquette, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage. He was the cherished father of Jeffrey (Samantha) and Sandra, and the proud grandfather of Nigel (predeceased) and Jared. Wayne was the caring older brother of Yvonne (predeceased), DeVere (Cleon), and Barbara (predeceased). He was a much‑loved uncle to his many nieces and nephews, and a dear brother‑in‑law to his extended family.

Formerly of St. Michael, Barbados, Wayne immigrated to Montreal, Canada, in 1969 to marry the love of his life and start a family. A former member of the Barbados Regiment and a skilled tradesman in floor sanding, ceramic tile work, and gyp rock installation, he worked several jobs upon his arrival in Canada before beginning a career in warehousing and logistics at the Simpsons department store, where he worked his way up to warehouse supervisor.

In 1984, he fulfilled his dream of becoming an entrepreneur and founded his own floor sanding and refinishing company. Known to many in the West Island as “the Sandman,” he took great pride in bringing life and beauty back to old hardwood floors. He retired in 2004, returning to his beloved island home, where he lived full‑time for several years before choosing to divide his time between Barbados and Canada.

He will be remembered for his kindness and generosity toward others, his cooking and entertainment skills, his involvement at church, and his love of fashion, shoes, and of course, playing the lottery.
