Lucia Rossi nee Francavilla

1928 – 2025

Lucia Rossi (nee Francavilla), age 97, loving mother of four, attentive Nonna to her grandchildren and adored by her late husband of sixty years Nicolas Rossi, passed away naturally after a long rich life in the early evening hours during a beautiful sunset on August 15 th , 2025. Lucia was born and raised in Lachine in a large Italian family where she was the youngest girl of 7 siblings survived only by her older sister Juliette.

Lucia, known to many as “Lucy” or Lucie” had a generous, kind soul that was full of life and filled with a great sense of humour. It was common for laughs and old stories to echo through the house at gatherings, with mom and dad at the center. Mom loved children and would often have her famous homemade cookies ready to hand out when the young kids from around our old Cloverdale Avenue would pass by with their parents, putting an instant smile on their faces.

Mom may have been a tiny person and her strength underestimated by many, but how she lived her life was a testament to her true grit. Mom was a wise woman and with her determined and resilient character, she was a terrific role model to her family whom she loved deeply and whose love was returned. Mom was a champion bowler, a masterful card player, a skilled knitter and who can forget “The Magic Fridge” where when guests stopped by unannounced, she would somehow miraculously pull out a continuous spread of incredibly delicious homemade food and she would always convince you to have “just a little something” to eat … but once you started, you couldn’t stop because her cooking was so so good! She will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.

Lucia is survived by two daughters Claudia (Vince Tiberi) and Adriana (Brad Smith); grandchildren Martina (Alex), Brianna (Antoine), Kayla, Sydney (Jamie) and Brady. She was predeceased by her husband Nicolas Rossi (2011) and daughters Sylvia (2014) and Lidia (1961).

Thank you to the caregivers at the Lakeshore Hospital for looking after her well-being in the final days and to the staff at Chartwell Manoir Kirkland for helping to make it her home for the last 8 years.

The family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the MUHC Foundation- MCI Respiratory Institute in honor of Lucia Francavilla: https://muhcfoundation.com/works/breathe-easier
