Tomáš J.F. Pavlásek
After 101.75 years of living life to the fullest, Tom died peacefully on April 13th, 2025, in the presence of family. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Lois in 2018. He will be deeply missed by his children Anne, Barbara (Brad Moffat) and Donald (Carole Montpetit), his adoring grandchildren Robin (David Martel), Jana (Parker Ewen) and Natalia, as well as nieces and nephews in Canada and Czechia.
Tom was born in London, England in 1923 and educated in Prague and Montreal. A lifelong McGill citizen, Tom earned his B. Eng (1944), M. Eng (1948) and PhD (1958) in Electrical Engineering at McGill and was appointed professor in 1953. He was named Emeritus Professor in 1984. His dedication to teaching, administration, and research was truly inspiring throughout his career. He continued teaching and advising at McGill long after retirement, reflecting his deep passion and unwavering commitment. Tom gave generously to the Lachine community, lending his time and energy to libraries, school committees, Summerlea United Church, the CLSC, and numerous neighbourhood causes and events. Later he and Lois were a vibrant part of life at The Cambridge in Pointe-Claire, where they shared many meaningful years as cherished members of that community.
Above all, Tom was dedicated to his family and friends near and far, always in touch, and always caring. He was a father figure to many, with his wise and endearing manner.
The family is most grateful to Glenna Matthews, Eric Wilson and Paul Shepley for their gentle care and support in recent years. We also thank Dad’s Thursday supper group for their precious friendship.
Plans for a life celebration will be announced.
