Diana Flynn
1932 – 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Diana Flynn (nee Kingsmill) who died peacefully at home in Montreal on May 14, 2025, from complications linked to Alzheimer’s disease. She was 92 years old.
Diana and her brothers Michael (deceased) and Peter were the children of Grange and Particia (nee Fosbery) Kingsmill. She will be sorely missed by her husband the Honorable Bernard Flynn j.c.s and their children: Marc (Lucie), Michael (Charlene), Suzanne (John) and Philippe (Marylène). She cherished her seven granddaughters (Diana, Jackie, Nicole, Sarah, Elisabeth, Laurianne and Sabrina). She was pleased to attend the recent weddings of Diana (Ike) and Jackie (Jay) and would have loved to meet Elijah, her four-month-old great-grandson.
Diana was born in the Montreal area and studied at McGill. She was one of only four women in a class of one hundred to complete her medical degree in 1958. As a general practitioner she worked in public health and with children with learning disabilities. At the age of 50, she decided to re-certify by completing a family medicine residency. For over a decade she was part of a family medicine clinic in the West Island. She was beloved by her patients who appreciated her willingness to take the time to listen to their concerns.
Diana met Bernard in Percé, Québec in the summer of 1952 while working a summer job. After seven years of distance and different paths, they married in 1959 and settled in Baie-Comeau to start their family and careers. In 1965, they moved to the Montreal area.
For Diana, family and friends always came first. She listened and shared and was always engaged and compassionate. The words of Maya Angelou seem fitting for Diana: “People forget what you said, forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
The family wishes to extend its deepest thanks to Dr. Miriam Boillat as well as caring caregivers Brooklyn, Ariane, Kike and Olivia. The family will receive friends starting at 12:30pm Saturday May 17 just before the service at 1:30pm at St-Veronicas Church 1300 Carson, Dorval. A reception following the service will be held at Résidence funéraire Lakeshore Cardinal, 560 Lakeshore Dr. Dorval.
Diana’s ashes will be buried in Percé. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be welcome.
