Ethel Mary (Nee Claydon) Murphy

1929 – 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Ethel Mary ( Claydon) Murphy at the age of 95 on May 18, 2025. Born in Lachine, Quebec to the late Walter Claydon and Elsie Synnett. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Bryant Patrick Murphy, in 2016.
Proud mother of Janice Murphy Bouttell ( David Bouttell) and Glenn Murphy ( Karen Schell). Cherished grandmother to Ryan ( Sara), Erin ( Brad), Justin (Gaby),Shannon ( Matt) and Liam ( Emma). Ethel was also so thrilled to become a great grandmother to Piper.

Ethel grew up in Lachine and spent many teenage summers at the Lachine Canoe Club. She traded her paddle for a tennis racket and skis when she met our dad and they were married in 1952. Ethel and Bryant were longtime members of the Dorval Tennis Club. She really enjoyed hosting family dinners, summer bbq’s and playing bridge with friends.
She later returned to work part time as a medical and dental secretary.
Ethel and Bryant retired in 1990 and were very fortunate to have the time for some wonderful travel adventures together.

Special Thanks to the caring staff on the Belvedere Care floor and later at the CHSLD Lachine when Ethel developed some medical challenges later in life.

Forever in our hearts, your spirit lives on in us.

Visitation will be held at Lakeshore Cardinal Funeral Home ( 560 Bord-du-Lac, Dorval, H9S 2B3) on Tuesday May 27 from 11am-1pm. The funeral mass will follow in the chapel at the same location at 1pm. Burial to follow at Lachine Catholic Cemetery.

  1. Ethel Murphy was a gracious, lovely lady. Her family was very important to her, and as time went on and the family expanded, she was always concerned about their well being. She loved to celebrate events in whatever way possible, and was delighted in the tokens of love she received. She will be missed. May she rest in Peace.

    Sincerely,
    Edna & Joseph Schell
