Ernest Donald Findlay
1956 – 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ernest D. Findlay—Ernie to his family and friends. Ernie passed away on February 12 at his home, as he had wished, and we take comfort in knowing he was where he wanted to be.
Ernie is survived by his love, best friend, and wife, Joy MacPherson, and his much-loved and adored son, Justin (Samantha).
Predeceased by his father, Gordon, his mother, Marion Bean, and his sister, Linda, Ernie leaves to mourn his siblings: Heather, Donna, Cathy (Robert), and Laurie, along with many nieces and nephews. He was a great brother-in-law to Marvin, Stephen, Janet, and David. He will also be deeply missed by his childhood friends Bob, Shirley, and Foster, who were always there to lend a hand or visit when Ernie needed them.
Ernie took great pride in teaching Justin, from the age of four, how to use tools to build (birdhouses were their early favorites), repair almost anything, and maintain those tools for the next project. He was highly skilled in carpentry, home renovations, and gardening, and he generously shared his knowledge with family, friends, and customers alike.
Although he was not able to, Ernie had hoped to see his beloved gardens in bloom one last time. To honor him, a celebration of his life will be held at a later date among his beautiful flowers.
