Claire Dumais L’Africain

1941-2025

It is with deep regret that our cherished Matriarch, Claire Elaine Dumais, born in 1941 in Chelsea MA, left us on June 11th, 2025 at the age of 83.

Born to parents William and Lillian (née Thibeault) Dumais, Claire spent her childhood primarily in Boston, MA, which led to a lifelong love of the Red Sox, fried clams, and the beach. Claire dedicated her life to helping others, taking pride in her volunteer work at the Father Dowd Residential Centre, and the Lachine Food Bank, the latter she continued until her passing. Claire had a sharp sense of humour, and could make you laugh in any situation. She found joy in music, especially Elvis, reading, backrubs from her grandkids, and crossword puzzles.

Claire is survived by her husband Pierre L’Africain, her sister Therese Theodore, her daughter Diane, and grandkids Matt (Jolianne), Kirsten (Martin) and Mackenzie (Evan). She was the cherished sister-in-law to Alice L’Africain, and aunt to Johanne (Luc), Jennifer (Joey), Paul (Matt), Joan, Nancy and Mary. She also leaves behind her great-grandkids Nolhan, Rosie, Nicholas and Thomas, as well as countless friends.

A celebration of life ceremony will be held to honour her life on Sunday June 29th from 1:00 to 5:00 pm, at the Lakeshore Cardinal Funeral Home in Dorval.

In lieu of flowers, donations to your local Food Banks would be something she would have appreciated.

I will miss Claire and her wonderful Boston accent – growing up with Diane and then later working with Claire at St Pat’s I would call her Mom #2. Will miss you Claire! Hope you get to meet Elvis!

  2. I will miss Claire she was a great person and my friend . We had many laughs together at Father Dowd especially when she did the happy hour . My deepest sympathy to the whole family
