Sandra D'Amico (née Howes)

Sandra Patricia Howes D'Amico

1958-2026

It is with profound sadness that the family of Sandra Patricia Howes D’Amico announces her passing on September 24, 2026, at the age of 68.

Born in Limerick, Ireland, Sandra came to Canada with her family as a young child and grew up in Lachine, Quebec. It was there that she met the love of her life, Angelo D'Amico.

Together, they built a life centered on family, friendship and community, eventually making Dorval their home. Sandra passed away just one day before what would have been their 50th wedding anniversary on September 25.

Sandra was the devoted mother of Marc (Marla), Ryan (Maria) and Robert (Pamela), and the proud grandmother of Michael, Matthew, Samuel, Nicholas, Christopher and Leo. Her family was the light of her life. She loved deeply, gave generously and did everything she could for the people closest to her. Her grandchildren brought her tremendous joy, and she treasured every moment she had with them.

Her sisters, Dawn, Linda and Carol, held an especially important place in Sandra's heart.

She would light up when they arrived and was always saddened when it was time for them to leave. Together they shared countless laughs, travels, stories and memories over the years. Few things made Sandra happier than having her sisters close by.

Sandra was also fortunate to have two sisters-in-law, Rosemary and Tina, who had been close by her side since she was a teenager. Over the decades, they became far more than sisters-in-law; they were an important and enduring part of her family and her life.

Sandra was predeceased by her beloved parents, Lennon and Joyce Howes, and her sister Dawn.

A caterer by trade, Sandra was an exceptional cook who had a natural gift for bringing people together around food. For more than 30 years, she was a familiar and much-loved presence as the cook at the Dorval Tennis Club, where she formed lasting friendships and became part of the fabric of the club community.

Her connection to Dorval went well beyond her work. Sandra was a proud and active member of the community, regularly volunteering her time, helping with local events and stepping forward whenever people needed help.

Perhaps no moment demonstrated that spirit better than the devastating Montreal Ice Storm. As residents sought warmth and shelter at the Royal St. Lawrence Yacht Club, Sandra and Angelo stepped up for their community, working together to cook and provide meals for those taking refuge there. It was an extraordinary example of generosity and community spirit during an incredibly difficult time. Sandra was later presented with a plaque commemorating her efforts - recognition of something that came naturally to her: taking care of people when they needed it most.

Sandra loved to enjoy life. She loved to travel, go out for dinner with friends, dance, laugh – and she sure loved to suntan. She had a wide circle of dear friends whom she cared for deeply, and those friendships brought her great happiness over the years.

To describe Sandra as kind and big-hearted would be an understatement. She was funny, loving, generous and deeply caring. She made people feel welcome, showed up for the people she loved and gave more than she ever expected in return.

Sandra's family extends heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at Lakeshore General Hospital, as well as the compassionate team at the Teresa-Dellar Palliative Care Residence, for the kindness, dignity and exceptional care they provided to Sandra and her family during her time with them.

Sandra will be remembered for her humour, generosity, culinary talent and extraordinary ability to light up a room. Through the meals she prepared, the traditions she created, the friendships she nurtured and the love she gave so freely, she made every gathering warmer and every memory more meaningful.

Though she is no longer with us, Sandra will remain close in the stories shared, the traditions carried forward and the love that continues to bind her family together.

Wherever family gathers, there will always be a place at the table for her.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Lakeshore Cardinal Funeral Home (560, Lakeshore, Dorval H9S 2B3) on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM.

A ceremony celebrating Sandra's life will be held in the chapel of Lakeshore Cardinal Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that those wishing to honour Sandra's memory consider making a charitable donation to Diabetes Québec or Liver Canada.
